Brighton Firefighters respond to approximately 2400 calls for assistance each year within our community, and to assist neighboring departments when their resources are stretched thin due to large fires in their districts. Many of BFD’s firecalls are successfully mitigated due to early notification, our quick response, and advanced training. A sampling of the 2400 firecalls we respond to annually include:

Brighton’s 24x7 staffing model, and quick response times, enable us to provide rapid first-response medical assistance throughout our district, many times in advance of an ambulance’s arrival – when critical seconds can be the difference between life and death. BFD responds to approximately 1200 EMS calls annually. BFD’s full-time firefighters, and many volunteer firefighters, are trained to EMT-level of care or higher, and all personnel offered training in CPR and AED. Our close working relationships with local ambulance agencies contributes to excellent care when several medical needs arise.
Brighton protects many miles of highway, several retention ponds, and a portion of the Erie Canal. Firefighters are trained and equipped to respond with advanced rescue skills and tools to help in situations like these:

BFD believes in the maxim that “An ounce of Prevention is worth a pound of Cure”. Through this maxim, we aim to proactively plan for unique hazards and risks within our district, and to educate the public about how to prevent accidents, fires, and emergencies in the first place. Non-Emergency Safety Planning, Assessments & Education
Smoke Alarm Installations
The innovation of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms has had a tremendous impact upon survival rates across the country. Though they are relatively easy to install and maintain, BFD firefighters would be happy to visit your home or workplace to help you understand proper operation, maintenance, and location of these devices. We would be happy to test them, and even install them for you. Please use our “Contact Us” page or call 911 and ask for BFD to help you with your detectors. We’d love to help.
Child Seat Installations
Many of our firefighters have been trained as Certified Technicians to install and check child safety seats in vehicles. The certification process requires over 40 hours of intensive class and hands on training where we learn how to best protect your child from accidents, airbags, vehicle hazards, etc.
Cars today are equipped with many features that could harm your child in the event of an accident. DON’T GUESS…BE SURE.

For many years, BFD has partnered with the Knox Company, who manufactures small key vaults that are installed on the exterior of a building. By placing your key within the Knox Box mounted on the outside of your home or business, firefighters and other emergency responders will simply use BFD’s secure Master Key to open the Knox Box to allow us rapid entry in an emergency situation – without wasting precious time or doing extensive damage to your property to gain entrance.

Choose the style of KnoxBox you would like to purchase
Fill out the form, and, please enter requested information to find "Brighton Fire Department". (Please note, we are not "West Brighton FD").
Complete your purchase
Once completed, BFD will receive notification from Knox for our approval. Upon BFD approval, the KnoxBox will be shipped to you for you to install.
After you have installed the box, please request BFD to come to your location to place your door keys within it, and lock the box with BFD's Master Key.
